So, Why Florida?

One main question that my family and I always get asked when we tell people that we are moving to Florida is, “Why Florida?” I do not have a clear answer that I can put into audible words other than, “That is where we feel called”.

Through our 21 years of marriage, my husband and I have always kept our minds, ears, and hearts open to where we feel God is leading us and where He can best use us for His purposes. Over the past several years, my husband and I have considered and prayed about moving to various areas throughout the United States and had not been to the point where we were at peace and could say, “Aha, yes! That place will be our next home”. Until now…..

As I have mentioned in a past blog post, many things have happened and changed around us in the last 6-9 months. Change is part of life and is always to be expected but these are changes that have shown us that God has used us in Indiana for 21 years and now it is time for Him to use us elsewhere.

Some people think that you must hear an audible voice from God in order to know that you are suppose to uproot everything that you have known, in order to be in the will of God. I do not believe that is true. God can use us anywhere and everywhere! We are not puppets that need to be physically picked up by God, like the little guy on the Google street view map in order for us to be where we think God can use us. In our case, God has given us both subtle and not so subtle nudges.

We have prayed and prayed and Florida is truly where we feel that God can use us best at this time in our lives. As long as we are serving God and are always open to his leading, we can serve him anywhere. Even though we are not missionaries by job title, I feel like how I picture missionaries must feel. We literally feel drawn to Florida and can not wait to get there. It just takes time and preparation. There will be bumps with frustration and disappointments along the way, but there will also be plenty of excitement and joy! The key is listening to God, trusting Him, and putting it into practice through obedience. Listen, trust, and obey…..
