The Adventure of a New Beginning

I never envisioned myself writing a blog. I didn’t really have anything too interesting that I thought other people would be interested in reading about. Well, I guess I’m still not totally sure that anybody will be interested in reading it now, but I thought that I would take a stab at it. At this stage in my family’s life, many changes are going on at once. I thought I would use this blog as a sort of journal for myself and maybe it can come in handy for other people along the way.

Here is a little bit of background: I have homeschooled my children since their first day of Kindergarten. We actually began homeschooling my oldest in June before her Kindergarten year to see how we all liked it. If we loved it, then that would be awesome! If not, then we still had time to enroll her in school before the school year had officially started. Let’s just say that we LOVED it! My son started school a year later and we continued on this homeschooling journey for 13 years. This year, my son doubled up his junior and senior years in order to graduate early. He would have more than enough credits to graduate with and only had a few required classes to finish up so we figured, why not?

This school year was a busy one with doing 3 school years at once and it is so hard to believe that it is now over. We finished about 1.5 weeks ago and the kids are now officially graduated. This year flew!

Towards late fall of last year, many things began to change. I won’t go into great detail, but we felt God nudging us, reminding us with extra nudges, and calling us to move and make a new beginning. Due to our circumstances, we could move anywhere and after praying about it and talking it over as a family, we decided that Florida was where we felt our next home was. So we started to make that a reality.

We spent quite a few months preparing our house to sell, researching the areas in Florida that would be a good fit for our family, and continuing to pray and trust in God. God has paved the way and continues to lead us in these decisions.

On the Monday of our last week of school, we met with our realtor and made the final preparations to put our house on the market. On Tuesday, our home went up for sale. We had 1 showing that evening. The next day we had 4 showings! On Wednesday evening, we had an offer. There were a couple of items that needed adjusted so we did not accept that particular offer. On Thursday morning, we accepted a new offer! In less than 48 hours we had technically sold our house. It was unbelievable to us! On Friday of that same week, my kids finished up their finals and by Friday afternoon, were completely done with high school. In just 1 week, we had put our house up for sale, sold our house, graduated our kids, and finished our career of 13 years as a homeschooling family!! It was an emotional week, but so exciting!

Now the hard work begins: packing, finding a mover, finding and deciding on a new home, communicating with our realtor who is 1000 miles away, preparing for our kids graduation open house, scheduling and catching up on doctor’s and dentist appointments, and saying “see you later” and “come visit soon” to friends and family. I am a quiet person and tend to leave the bigger jobs to my husband. In this season of life, he is incredibly busy at work, so I am the one who needs to make some of the preparations. So in the last week or so I have “put my big girl pants on” and have done many things that are out of my comfort zone in order to keep our family on track with the move. I guess you could say that I am finding a new “me”. After 13 years of doing what I have absolutely loved and will forever treasure, I am up for the task and am continually asking God to show me what my next role as a wife and mother is and how to make that happen. I am already putting some new skills into practice.

The goal of this blog is to keep our friends updated on our progress, and to share our journey. We have absolutely no idea what we are doing as we have never moved across the country before, but we are trusting in God to lead us and are having fun planning our new adventure!! Stay tuned…….
